7 or Seven, Restaurant at Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman
Price: $$$$$ Like sister restaurants Blue, Taikun and Periwinkle at Cayman Islands Ritz Carlton, Seven is everything you would expect from a Ritz Carlton Resort. They have managed to create a para-Cayman Islands ambiance, albeit of a lifestyle that few Cayman people could ever afford. Seven is primarily for Ritz guests but visitors from cities with no 5 star restaurants and a high vacation dining budget may benefit from the experience. Abacus Restaurant
Price: $$$$ Abacus opened in 1996 by the same business partners, Markus Mueri and Neil Bryington who own Prime and Deckers. A 2009 addition to Cayman Camana Bay development, Abacus offers an open air commercial mall experience with indoor and outdoor dining and bar featuring contemporary dining, cocktails, à la carte menu and weekly specials. Dark wood contemporary furniture and artificial lighting create a level of ambiance sufficient to provide distraction from the surrounding mall activity. Abacus is a good restaurant for a rainy work day lunch or perhaps a casual evening out, except for their much higher than casual prices. Visitors can do much better. Agave Grill and Restaurant, Grand Cayman
Price: $$$ Agave Grill and Restaurant, opened in 2005 at Ed's Plaza in Industrial Park, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Agave Grill and Restaurant serve Mexican style meat and chili. Some locals working in Industral Park want a change and try Agave out of convenience. Nothing at Agave is worth spending vacation time and dollars for barely average Mexican food in the Cayman Islands. Agua Restaurant, Grand Cayman
Price: $$$ Agua restaurant opened in 2007 in Galleria shopping mall. Their Peruvian fare is a nice diversion for locals who do not have access to higher quality Peruvian food. Standard Peruvian dishes run up to $30 per dish, with wines and liquors an average dinner at Aqua can cost $100 per person or more. Visitors can do much better. Alfresco Restaurant, Grand Cayman
Price: $$ Alfresco is basically a deck in West Bay, near a little shack that sometimes serves food. What you see is what you get, insects, direct sun and a few umbrellas. Antica Geleteria, Grand Cayman
Price: $$ Antica Geleteria, opened in 1999 in a Seven Mile Beach strip mall in Grand Cayman and closed in 2004. Aqua Beach Restaurant
Price: $$$ Aqua Beach Restaurant, Grill and Bar opened in 1988 in Seven Mile Beach. Aqua Beach Restaurant and Bar was a thriving popular local hangout during one of its past incarnations. Today, Aqua Beach is pretty run down, with the food and service reflecting a remnant of what was once a good restaurant and bar. Azurro Cafe, Grand Cayman
Price: $$ Azurro Cafe opened in 1985 at Buckingham Square Mall. They serve basic but not quite Starbucks quality coffees and pastries at moderate prices. Great for locals on the run, visitors can do much better. Bacchus Restaurant
Price: $$$$ Bacchus is among the oldest restaurants in Grand Cayman. Owner Keith Griffin comb in in es local Cayman ingredients with European seasoning to concoct spicy European dishes. Bacchus has a Latin type of feel, although they do not offer any traditional Latin food. Bacchus is located in George Town near, but not close enough to see, the water. Bacchus is fairly popular among the locals. The service is good, the food is good, the prices are fairly high, and the ambiance is roadside indoor mall. Visitors can do much better. Bamboo Sushi Restaurant, Grand Cayman
Price: $$$ Bamboo, Britannia and Hemingways opened at the Cayman Islands Hyatt Resort in 1978 and remain at the same location at the 2005 renovated resort, now called Grand Cayman Beach Suites. Bamboo gives the biggest bang for your sushi bucks as an upscale affordable night spot. Their fish and sushi is always fresh and top notch, original and infused with local flavors. Bamboo has managed to create the charm and atmosphere of elegant Cayman Islands dining at reasonable prices. Locals dine at Bamboo frequently as their menu changes every week. Visitors should add Bamboo to their Cayman Islands dining list. Baskin Robbins Ice Cream, Grand Cayman
Price: $$$ Baskin Robbins Ice Cream opened in 2006 in a Seven Mile Beach strip mall near the Marriott. Their ice cream is authentic and approximately 25% higher than the USA. Billy Bones Swim Up Bar at Treasure Island, Grand Cayman
Price: $$$ Billy Bones is a fun and convenient snack and beverage bar for guests of Treasure Island Condos. Why anyone else would want to dine here is anyone's guess. Blue at Ritz Carlton
Price: $$$$$ Like sister restaurants Seven or 7, Taikun and Periwinkle at Cayman Islands Ritz Carlton, Seven is everything you would expect from a Ritz Carlton Resort. They have managed to create a para-Cayman Islands ambiance, albeit of a lifestyle that few Cayman people could ever afford. Blue is primarily for Ritz guests but visitors from cities with no 5 star restaurants and a high vacation dining budget may benefit from the experience. Blue Cilantro
Price: $$$$$ Blue Cilantro opened in January 2012, owned by Chef Shetty, who worked at the Hyatt from 1994 until they closed following a major hurricane in 2004. Boasting "Authentic Contemporary Caribbean", the menu is mostly a mix of Indian and French appetizer style dishes, prepared and served by a predominantly Asian staff. Interior ambiance is upscale and clean but the restaurant is situated directly on a highly congested roundabout on Seven Mile Beach road, directly adjacent to Galleria strip mall. Prices are disproportionately high for the very small portions served but food quality is good and original, though not "authentic Caribbean" as advertised. Drinks and wines are similarly priced and diverse. Service seems to vary significantly, ranging from overly friendly to thoroughly inattentive, which will probably balance out somewhere in between as the staff becomes more experienced. An average dinner for two with a bottle of their most affordable wine will cost upwards of $200, which is more in line with Grand Cayman's finest ocean front restaurants than strip mall pricing. Blue Iguana Restaurant, Grand Cayman
Price: $$$$ Blue Iguana opened in 1996 in the Grand Caymanian Resort at Safehaven in Grand Cayman. Blue Iguana at the Grand Caymanian is directly adjacent to the Ritz golf course Caymans North Sound. Blue Iguana Restaurant serves mostly continental food, some with a few spicy condiments to pass it off as local food. Blue Iguana offers several somewhat tacky theme nights that have nothing to do with the Cayman Islands. Some visitors do enjoy Blue Iguana because they do get some good ratings. We would give it a 2. Brasserie Restaurant
Price: $$$$ Brasserie restaurant combines contemporary and more traditional ingredients to create roasted pig, Wahoo with breadfruit, salads, snapper, ice creams, wines, cocktails and tapas. The decorations are bright enough with mostly artificial lighting and offer distractions from the busy adjoining street. The service is good, the food is good, the prices are fairly high, and the ambiance is roadside indoor mall. Visitors can do much better. Breadfruit Tree Garden Restaurant, Grand Cayman
Price: $$ Breadfruit Tree Garden Restaurant opened in 2002 at 58 Eastern Avenue in George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Breadfruit restaurant serves an older rendition of typically over cooked local Jamaican style food. Despite their non décor, below average food and cramped downtown location, Breadfruit restaurant survives on Cayman's busy lunch crowd desperate for anything close and cheap. Breezes Restaurant
Price: $$$$ Breezes by the Bay is located near the water, in downtown George Town, with views of George Town Harbour. Breezes serves mostly continental dishes, like shrimp, chicken, pork, and conch fritters. But even their ocean view can not distract from the hordes of cruise ship passengers that bombard them due to their close proximity to the cruise ship docks. There is no parking within blocks so this primarily a cruise stop. It may be worth a try if you are there on a day when the ships are not but the only sure 'cruise free' day is Sunday and Breezes and most other downtown George Town restaurants are not open on Sunday. Brick House Restaurant, Brewhouse Cafe, Grand Cayman
Price: $$ Brick House and Brew House opened in 2002 at the skate park behind Hurley's Supermarket, near the airport. They are popular among the locals because of their somewhat more affordable prices for primarily American continental food. Their coffees, food, service and menu selections are good and diverse. Portions are good and prices are reasonable. Worth a stop for hungry visitors passing by the area wanting American diner style food. Britannia Bar and Grill, Grand Cayman
Price: $$ Britannia, Hemingways and Bamboo opened at the Cayman Islands Hyatt Resort in 1978 and remain in the same seaside location at the 2005 renovated resort, now called Grand Cayman Beach Suites. Britannia is situated lake side at their immaculately groomed golf course. Their food is top notch, original and infused with local flavors. Much more than snacks in between holes, Britannia is worth a try for anyone enjoying plentiful affordable dining in a serene upscale atmosphere. Dining in the Cayman Islands but staying at a resort or hotel instead of a dedicated Cayman Islands dine Resort, good dine photography options, average length restaurants dines, the greatest amount of Grand Cayman dines. And you ARE interested in lots of great restaurants, and many other activities, tours and attractions. Do NOT go to any Grand Cayman all inclusive restaurants! We have tried them all! The all-inclusive prices do not end up being any less extensive than choosing your accommodations, restaurants, and restaurants ala carte. Plus you need a car. So you don't want to restrict yourself to restaurants shore restaurants! And it is not short of crazy to go to an island like Grand Cayman that is known for its hundreds of spectacular and very restaurants, and then dine at the same all inclusive cafeteria type of restaurant all day, every day? Crazy, if you think about it, but some people do still go, but most of the all inclusive resorts on Grand Cayman have shut down, and what remains are in pretty rough and ready condition. If you choose Grand Cayman for dining, you need to pick what part of the island to stay at. I know this sounds kinda complicated but unless you want to roll the dice, you need to do a little work.
